Organizing Your Homeschool
So homeschool - it is brilliant! Homeschooling is wonderful, we could enjoy ourselves for a number years and we love it.
The big question - I have all these great things - Where do I put this? How can I organize the papers, pencils and pens and bears tiny, I mean not even get to the books, oh my books. Things I now need to know how to organize everything.
First - Take a breath deep and know that they are not alone, either on their way home or at school in their quest to manage the madness and learn to organize.
Steps to Organization (aka How to organize) are fairly straightforward. Imagine you are putting together a puzzle. What to do first? (Well, first open the box, but I'm thinking that we have past that part.) So what second? Depending on the type of person you are, first, the classification of parts. The pieces with straight edges go in a pile and the pieces without the edges straight back to the bottom of the box. So our first step in learning how to organize:
HOW TO ORGANIZE STEP 1 - RANK (woo hoo, yeah, I think trumpets and fanfare - this is exciting, we know where to start to learn to organize)
After classification have finished their parts, we go to step two. (I know, I know - I tell you how to order or what kind or how to organize anything - That comes later in the article. Hang in there.)
So what is the next thing you do when building a puzzle? Do we fix it and then only walk? Do we put all the pieces Middle (ie, not fitted with the rule) and in the first place? No, first to build a border of our pieces. So step two is the following:
HOW TO ORGANIZE STEP 2 - CREATING A BORDER (more fanfare, the sounds of applause)
The boundary is built, but we're not done yet. If you left the puzzle with the border just never get to enjoy the beauty of it. The same goes for learning to organize. The construction of a border is great, but now you have to use it. How do I use a border? I'm glad you asked (ok, I'm glad you asked, but if you here I'm sure they have ordered.) used a boundary puzzles which provide information about the puzzle. The frontier tells us how big the final product be. It helps us determine where inside the pieces should go and also allows us to see light at the end of the tunnel. (I was a puzzle to the trains, and soon I will return again. It's a mixed metaphor, but I digress.) So step three is how to organize the following:
STEP 3 HOW TO ORGANIZE - Filling in the pieces
This makes sense when you are thinking of a puzzle, after all you have all these non-linear side there sitting and waiting. How does this work with the organization? Remember back in the way of organizing - the first step in which they were dealing with? Those are the missing pieces, to fill in the pieces means you're now putting things away. (Yes, another light at the end of the tunnel) So that's why they are doing, right? After all, ordered the parts, build the border, we are filled with parts is carried out our puzzle. Right? Wrong! Sorry, but it is a step closer before they are organized. (Actually, I'm sorry, but it sounds nicer to say it that way instead of - cowboy bad luck, stop being a crybaby.) So what is the last step? Take a minute to think about it - when done with a puzzle, what do you do? Do you makes you built it? Do you take all of them, unless it can re-do it again? Do you goo stain on the form that is will become a work of art for you to hang on the wall? For the purposes of our analogy (ie, comparing the construction of a puzzle with learning how to organize) We'll so no, no, yes. No, not just out of where it is - it is only adds to the clutter. No, do not take it apart (What, you mad? "We did everything to be organized this work, for God's sake, do not take it apart.) Yes, Goo smear so it is a work of art. Now before you go for real goo and really make a mess of things to remember - this is an analogy. The Goo is basically things that is the puzzle and keeps it looking nice. That is what we need - we want our new area looks good. Thus, the final step is:
HOW TO ORGANIZE Step 4 - The final step - keep it organized (I forgot the fanfare for the third phase we will add it here - fanfare fireworks and a laser show and a Skywriter write "you just learned the basics of how to organize.")
Now that have climbed the "Steps of the Organization" (also known as how to organize) together, we see an example.
Note: If you have only for short periods of time to work on his project of the then still working its way through the steps, however, organize small sections. For example, organizing the first floor, and then organize the shelves (one at a time), etc)
Step 1: Classification
This is the difficult part, but if you want to learn to get organized and stay organized, it really is necessary. Let's head to his room homeschool / / dressing area and carry boxes with you. Start tagging your boxes as follows - the trash, gift or sale, does not belong to this area - depending on the amount of things that is you may have several boxes. Once you have gone through their initial classification, taking out the trash away, and move the donate / sell boxes to another location (preferably outside your home). Now we get down to the nitty gritty of learning to organize - in the next step we will begin construction of our border, so we can put things in an organized way. Keep a box or two around so that any items you decide you need and can not be placed in the box. If you have a lot of items you no longer need, consider selling them at a local Convention homeschool books or online site.
If space is limited in school in your area, take a look around your house to see if you have storage space on the web. To keep the number of school supplies to a minimum that you can choose to keep only what is to be used immediately (within a week, month, semester or year). For items you are storing on a shelf organizing (if possible) or in labeled boxes. Label your boxes with your content so that when you need to retrieve items will be easier to find. An idea how to organize the storage boxes labeled with the approximate year (first grade, ie, middle school, etc.) matter (math, science) and date when the table is placed in storage. If you find that you have one or more cells not used for a time, consider whether it is necessary to keep the elements of the box, or you can sell or donate items.
Step 2: Create a Border
Since they have not yet seen education two rooms that look the same house that I will review some of the basics of how to organize the elements of education at home there, you should have a very good handle on things and can continue. Please send me an email through our contact page and I know your question about how to organize their education at home (or any other area) and I'll try to be of some help.
Books:
Living books, textbooks, workbooks, lab books, notebooks, book chapters, books first reading, picture books, puzzle books, books Teacher, student books, books on home education, books, books, books - if you homeschool, you have the books. The question is how organize all these books?
One option, depending on the space is a shelf. We have used construction kit shelves, and have the usual booksellers integrated in a closet using wooden supports and shelves of our local hardware store. homemade shelves are fairly simple to do and if you do not have the equipment to cut the wood at home, most hardware stores cut pieces for you (for a small fee), just make sure you measure before you go. (Measure twice, cut once - otherwise it is a measure, once cut, buy some more. . .)
If you want other options organizer of the platform, you can look at options cubby shelf, wall mounted or bookshelf. There are a number of options available so take your time and look around to determine the best idea on how to organize your books. (after all, you have to live with him, not me)
Supplies:
Supplies tend to multiply, we begin with a few pens, then somehow turn into dozens of feathers. Deciding how to organize these sources vary from school at home to homeschool. Here are a variety of suggestions drawer and other ways of organizing various supplies. Use these elements as a springboard for the style of its own border. Be sure to read through step 3 for information on a manufacturer's label to help you learn how to organize their containers, boxes, crates and easy to use.
Large drawers hold paper, pens, even books. I found the drawers when I was trying to decide how to organize laboratory supplies. One of my drawers is for experiments in vivo, this does not mean that I keep frogs or bugs in it, instead I use for the organization food for fish and frogs, plant seeds and other supplies. Another drawer is our Explorer gear box, one containing binoculars, small networks, a small bug habitat, and other supplies. large drawers can be found in the plastic storage section or the craft section. This is usually 12 x 12 so they are great for books and papers.
Mini drawers are great for organizing pens, pencils, paper clips, elastic bands and all small office supplies. When looking at the drawers sure to check the information on bin sizes before buying online. For example, in some sites in the mini drawers look larger than the width drawers, that is, however, is not the case in real life. Check your space allocation measurement, then look for crates that fit. (Great school project at home - make the child size then find the area of space and drawers better fit)
Shoe boxes appear to have no space in his home area of education, but are great for the organization. To find out how organize math manipulatives, games and computer scientist who shoebox. Items can be easily organized as the boxes have lids also can be stacked. In the search for storage boxes, be sure to look for clear boxes to facilitate identification of the components inside, if you have to take the lids of boxes to find out what's in the box soon occur in your organization system. He also wants the boxes have lids. While baskets may be more beautiful, that do not stack and if something is removed from the platform incorrectly to make a big mess. Another reason to have boxes with lids are learning is that to organize and easily with the principle of learning to organize the process of falling back into old habits. A box with no lid becomes a dumping ground for little things.
A decorative form of the organization includes the use of baskets (I know I just said not to use baskets, but after having learned to organize, you can start to seek other options, such as baskets. Just make sure they are used for very specific things. We have three baskets under a long table by the front door, these are our baskets in the library. Only books in the library and check out the leaves are put into baskets. You can also use the door space, using something like as a 15-pocket organizer on the door or the owner of a file folder. We have also used children's toys and storage bin organizer, but not in the classroom. It began in the classroom, but I found it does not work well because there are no lids. In the nursery, toy organizers work well to keep toys organized, but everything depends on the ages of your children and variety of supplies. Teach your children how to organize their own things now will save you thereafter.
Step 3: Complete the pieces
Now is when you start putting things back. One issue I've found to be an organizational tool is a great label maker. Some examples of those responsible for the label are the DYMO Personal Label Maker or the Brother P-Touch Electronic Labeling System. It can even be used to print Avery Mailing Labels. The point is we need a way to label. What will you tag? The short answer is: everything. All boxes, drawers and pockets should be a label. Thus, if you find an empty box, you know what was going to be in it. Also, when you look in your area Storage can see at a glance what you have. Where else can use these tags? 3 Ring Binders: To learn how to organize multiple folders in the same space (usually bought in a multipack that all look alike) without having to open each folder to determine its content, put a label on the spine and eliminate this problem.
Step 4: The final step - How to get organized so that you can stay organized
Once you have learned to organize must learn to keep organized. A simple system of organization, it is easier for you to keep organized. One way to do this is to label my boxes at both ends, that way when the kids get back on the platform (see - teaching children how to organize) back does not matter because the boxes marked on both ends. Another way to keep organized is through a section of mother and child section. In the section for children are not items that children can learn to use and on his own mother in the section are the things that I think needs help. This will vary depending on the age of their children. Remember that unless you live alone (and if it does not live alone homeschool) is not the only one who has to know how to organize. If everyone knows how to organize time your life will be much easier.
The fund - Have fun making your area school organized in one place, that way everyone can enjoy spend time there. Organizer does not have to be hard - Take time to look through your stuff. Take what you want, get rid of what does not and organize what's left so that you can find everything when needed.
