A good bathing technique is essential to keep your Shih Tzu's hair in good condition and maintenance of skin problems to a minimum. Many of the owners of Shih Tzu say they have skin problems. This is a problem that I have not found many things in my life with the Shih Tzu. However, it occurs more in some lineages. If water temperature is "just right", no chance will be less than Shih Tzu move out of their hands. Use a mild shampoo specially formulated for dogs that is "without tears." Baby Shampoo can be used regularly. I've never had a problem with dry skin when I baby shampoo. It's just harder to rinse. Shampoo specially formulated for dogs and puppies is usually easier to rinse. I like using Fluffy Puppy shampoo for puppies and even the faces of my older Shih Tzu because it is tearless.
Pour water gently over your Shih Tzu puppy in the kitchen sink, a small bowl or basin is much less alarming than the use of a spray high power. Once your Shih Tzu used to the bathroom, you can try using the spray system is much better and faster all the shampoo out. Also can use a gallon milk jug (when it is empty and rinsed out, of course) to the first pour water over the puppy. After being washed, the puppy Shih Tzu should be dried completely before power off again.
