Wood is the most popular choice material for decks. Not only is hardwood, also is strong, durable and easy to work. Wood is vulnerable, however, moisture damage and should be checked frequently. Deck boards that are split, chipped, cracked, or have raised nails may indicate a potential problem with moisture saturation.
Moreover, wood is an absorbent substance, not unlike the skin, wood pores can develop clogged and deteriorating. The best way to prevent problems with your wood deck is to be sealed and maintained. Now, let's discuss some types of wood that are commonly used for decks.
Cedar: The wood of this tree strong, evergreen conifer is a favorite of fashion covers. Not only looks beautiful and has a wonderful aroma, is also very durable. The feel of cedar is soft, and the grain of cedar is elaborate and amazing. Cedar produces natural tannins that are said to be naturally defiant to insects.
Nevertheless, these tannins can spot, especially after rain, which takes place until the wood becomes fully acclimatized (three years or less). After a wood deck cleaning the cedar should be sealed. Sealant of colors that work well with predominance of cedar are the chances of redwood or cedar tinted. These deck sealers allow the natural grain of the cedar to show through for, while protecting the wood through a protective pigment.
Redwood: Used commonly in timber construction, redwood is (as the name advocates) a reddish wood. Besides the color, redwood is very similar to cedar, is an elegant choice for the construction of wooden floors.
Pressure treated pine: This long needle tree also has wood that is very common in roofing. Pine wood varies from very soft, as white pine, wood very hard, as in the longleaf pine. The term "pressure treated" refers to wood that has been chemically treated to repeal insects and putrefaction. Cedar and redwood are not treated because of its nature, is not necessary. The disadvantages of using pressure treated wood stain is rapid, the division of problems, and inconsistent look due to the many chemicals found in wood.
As with all timber, always a good idea to have your pressure treated deck cleaned and sealed so that these natural problems can be avoided. It is best to hire a company specializing in pressure washing cover and restoration of the wooden deck. Depending on personal liking, pine works well with any color deck sealer. As with cedar or redwood, there are colors natural that can increase the natural grain and color of the wood. Advantages of using pine are its versatility, affordability (compared to cedar or redwood) and its reliability.
Wood decks can be very severe exposure, plus abrasion and extreme friction from foot traffic. The horizontal surfaces, such as soil and the top rail, receive generous amounts of sunlight and moisture. Continued swelling and contraction of the wood decomposes any film severely continuous coating, leading to cracking, peeling and flaking.
These deck coatings or sealants are not recommended for these surfaces. Penetrating deep oil-based sealers deck coverings are recommended. They require frequent refinishing, but it is an easier task than the scraping and sanding needed to prepare paints, solid stains, water and cement for repainting. Latex sealers or paints are to prevent water can accumulate on surfaces flat. Reinforced silicone sealant products should also be avoided.
Coatings fall into one of two categories. Film forming coatings are primers, paints, sealants heavy body color and solid form coat or film over the surface. Penetrating stains, the second category, diving deep into the forest beyond of the area resulting in very little surface film. This type of penetrating sealer is not prone to cracking, peeling or flaking of the film as type training.
Oil-based penetrating sealers excellent job covering a moisture blocking and protection against harmful UV rays. These types of sealers are normally semi-transparent but can still have a tone or tint added to them in a variety of colors. Therefore, the cover may have a certain color or tone to it, yet the beauty of the wood grain will still show through. A rule of thumb is the darker the tone of the roof sealant, sun more protection it provides.
